Young people living in social housing or on the NSW Housing Register, who will be studying year 11 or 12 at a NSW high school or TAFE college for the HSC or TAFE equivalent during the 2011 academic year, are eligible for Housing NSW Youth Scholarships. Applications are now open.

Gambling Inquiry Report Released

The Productivity Commission has released its report into gambling. The report argues that, while it is not possible to be definitive about the costs and benefits of gambling, the overall net benefits of gambling range between $3.7 and $11.1 billion, but the net benefits could be much larger if governments reduced the costs through effective prevention and harm minimisation policies. The report offers a series of recommendations for reducing harm and increasing revenue from gambling. Access the report.

Government Announces $3.1million Trial of Integrated Services to Homeless

The Rudd Government today announced $3.1 million in grants to trial new, integrated services to assist homeless people. Minister for Housing, Tanya Plibersek, announced the funding today at The Road Home - Progress and Lessons Exhibition, which brought together government and non-government representatives to review progress on homelessness reforms.

The Queensland Council of Social Services has been approved as the provider to deliver the NGO Homelessness Planning and Coordination initiative in Queensland, funded under the Homelessness National Partnership Payment Implementation Plan.
