Pialba Gets Affordable Accommodation

Minister for Housing, Tanya Plibersek today inspected a five unit development that will provide new affordable homes in Pialba. The project has been developed by local business Hervey Bay Heights Pty Ltd and comprises five one-bedroom apartments. Once completed, the complex will be managed by Regional Housing Limited. Engagement with education and employment is too narrow a focus through which to address social inclusion of the homeless. That was the clear message from speakers at the Homelessness in the Social Inclusion Framework forum held in Melbourne, June 27th 2010.
The Forum, hosted by Council to Homeless Persons (Vic) was also the occasion for the launch of the May 2010 issue of Parity - Homelessness and Social Inclusion.

The Practice Sheet builds upon the findings from Engaging Hard-to-Reach Families and Children (Cortis, Katz, & Patulny, 2009), one of three themed studies undertaken as part of the national evaluation of the Stronger Families and Communities Strategy.

This 2009 report prepared for Sexual Health and Family Planning ACT and the Division of Communication and Education
University of Canberra presents the findings of a qualitative research project which explored the sexual and reproductive health needs of young people experiencing homelessness in Canberra.
Focus groups with young people living in SAAP accommodation, and interviews with targeted youth workers and registered nurses were the main methods of inquiry.

Queensland Affordable Housing Consortium has been awarded incentives to build these new homes across Queensland in areas including Brisbane, the Fraser Coast, Gladstone, Ipswich, Logan, Mackay, Moreton Bay, Rockhampton, South Burnett and Townsville. Read more.
