That's a major finding of the House Standing Committee on Family, Community, Housing and Youth inquiry into the impact of violence on young Australians. The Committee released its report Avoid the Harm - Stay Calm in July 2010.

The integration of homelessness, mental health and drug and alcohol services in Australia

Homeless people have disproportionately high levels of poor mental health leading to increased disability in many walks of life. Our human services delivery system is often too fragmented, failing to address particular needs and providing conflicting advice and treatment to clients with such needs. That's the conclusion from this AHURI Positioning Paper 123, released August 2010.

It could be you: female, single, older and homeless

This report was written by Ludo McFerran and released in August 2010. The report found being over the age of 45 and single increases a woman's risk of becoming homeless. Older women who have been divorced, are in low-paying jobs, and living in rental accommodation are particularly at risk.

This study and report was a collaborative project of Homelessness NSW, the Older Women’s Network NSW and the St Vincent de Paul Society, with support provided by the Australian Domestic and Family Violence Clearinghouse.

Kids Central - Toolkit to support children affected by homelessness

Launched in July 2010, Kids Central was developed by Tim Moore and Megan Layton at the Institute of Child Protection Studies at the Australian Catholic University, in partnership with the ACT Department of Disability, Housing and Community Services with support from the ACT community sector.

The kit was developed in response to a research project conducted by the Institute on experiences of homelessness for accompanying children.

The tool kid can be found on the Australian Catholic University website, it has been broken into parts on the site as it is a large document, the link above (and below) will take you to the Kids Central landing page.

In the Media - Finding jobs for homeless women is a Big Issue

This article by Rick Feneley was produced July 28, 2010 and published on The Sydney Morning Herald website.

The article discusses the new initiative by the Big Issue to support the employment of women affected by homelessness. For every 100 subcriptions for the Big Issue through their "Women's Subscription Enterprise" program the Enterprise will employ one woman.
